Penne with Grilled Chicken, Gorgonzola, Asparagus and Caramelized Onions

Here is a new recipe I tried earlier this week and it is definitely going in my keeper folder! I thought I would share it with all of you!
It isn't quite grilling season up here yet so I baked the chicken, but it was still very yummy! Hope you enjoy it too!

Ingredients:
2C penne pasta, uncooked
2tsp. olive oil
1/2C thinly sliced onion, seperated into rings
1tsp. sugar
1 1/2C chopped plum tomatoes
2C grilled/baked chicken, cut into 1in pieces
1 1/2C chicken broth
1/2C asparagus spears, cut into 1in diagonal pieces
1/4C whipping cream
4tsp. minced garlic
1pkg. (4oz) crumbled gorgonzola cheese
1/2C basil

Directions:
Cook pasta as directed on the package.
Meanwhile, heat oil in a small skillet on medium heat. Add onions and sugar; cook and stir 2 to 3 minutes or until the onions are tender. Remove from heat and set aside.
Drain and rinse the pasta; place in a large skillet. Add tomatoes and cook on medium heat for 1 minute, stirring occasionally. Add chicken, broth, asparagus, cream and garlic; mix well. Cook and stir 5 minutes or until sauce is bubbling and slightly thickened. Add onions and basil; mix well and cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the gorgonzola and let it cook until just starting to melt.

Pairs very well with a fruit salad.
